Come Discover USC! During my last check out to the Metro DC area

During Discover programs we hope to present ourselves as organized and professional. That generally means we appear extra-early, run around like crazy people making sure the brochures we sent ahead of time have actually arrived, curse at non-functioning technology, while having the resort manager’s number on speed dial. It was great to see a couple of familiar faces of students I had met at high schools that week. I talked with one family members that has driven about four hours to go to! Although we loved that the household was there, please don’t believe you’ve got to make that sacrifice. Near you, please feel free to just let your admission counselor know that you want more information but can’t attend a Discover program if we aren’t coming to a city.
When our formal presentation is over there’s an opportunity to inquire and hear from admission counselors from academic divisions. Students can split into groups according to specialized niche and have major questions that are related well. I heard from numerous families who were having their first experience with USC that evening. Several other parents provided they had already been to USC, but they learned something new which somehow changed their perspective on the college application process or about USC with me that. I additionally talked with a parent who appeared to have some information that is outdated USC or had accumulated some information based on another person’s experience. This is an opportunity that is great parents to recharge their knowledge and learn about present time USC.
Among the last, and something of my favorite, comments I heard about the night was ‘now I understand why everybody else has plenty school spirit!’ A job well done on our component.

Mythbuster: I can take the SAT or ACT right before the admission due date
The Myth: I can take the SAT or ACT prior to the admission deadline and it will be fine.
The Verdict: Not a great idea. The test may not make it into the application over time for review.
With our December 1 deadline approaching, it’s almost that time of year when our office is sent thousands and thousands of applications, transcripts, test ratings and letters of recommendation. Honestly, it is amazing that every thing gets placed into every single student’s application file given the high amount of content we receive.
It’s essential to know that it takes a significant timeframe for all application materials to be organized and downloaded as a student’s application file- especially test scores. Think about it. SAT and ACT offer certain test times and dates. They then have to score those tests, deliver you your rating, and send the score then to all the colleges on your list. This takes a lot of time on their end, plus it takes several weeks on our end to download and process the ratings.
If you take a standard test right before the admission deadline, it can use up to two weeks as soon as the test is scored to be downloaded into your application file. That would be too late. Our staff has from 1 until early January to review ALL the applications submitted by our December 1 merit scholarship deadline december. We will accept ratings that are submitted after the due date, but keep in mind we need official test scores before we can review a student’s application.
You will also want to ensure that you arrange for all of your other application materials become sent on time. Your school is quite busy at this time of year because they deliver transcripts to hundreds of colleges. On top of grading tests and papers, your teachers are writing letters of recommendation for you by themselves time. You will wish to give every person advance notice of admission due dates and when they should submit materials on your behalf. Your teachers and counselors will actually appreciate it! Them plenty of time, they will be able to get us your transcript in a timely manner and write thoughtful recommendations if you give.
